Here is a cheap test for whether your design system is real.

Point three AI agents at your component library. Ask each one to build the same settings page. Compare what comes back.

Someone ran that experiment. Every agent produced something different, and every result was defensible. The components matched. The layout, the grouping, the save behaviour and the error states did not. Nothing was broken. The rules simply were not written down anywhere.

Most design systems document the smallest decisions and skip the biggest ones. We standardise a button and leave "how a settings page works" to whoever picks up the ticket. That was survivable when the person picking it up had context. Agents have none, so the gap shows up on the first try.

The fix was boring. Write down structure, behaviour and interaction, not just components. The divergence disappeared.
