Introduction
I worked as a Senior Product Designer at RAKBANK, one of the biggest banks in the UAE. My role was to lead the digital transformation of the bank's mobile and web platforms, including the launch of real-time payments in the UAE. I collaborated with a team of five designers to create a Design System and implement solutions for native mobile apps, web, and responsive web applications. Through user research, we identified the needs of our customers and implemented improvements to provide a seamless and convenient banking experience. The project was completed within four months and received numerous awards, including the Best Internet Banking Initiative Award and Bank of the Year Award at the Arabian Business Achievement Awards.
Challenge
How to carry out a digital transformation of a bank that has been operating for years, generating huge profits but noticeably lagging behind the competition? How to implement changes resulting from the need to introduce new directives and new banking systems? These were the main challenges facing me and the project team of which I was a part. We worked with a team of 5 designers on the introduction of a digital revolution, which included the creation of a Design System and the implementation of solutions that included native applications (iOS and Android) as well as web and responsive web applications.
Solution
I started by analyzing the needs and understanding the user paths in detail, the needs we have to consider when introducing new systems in the National Payment Systems Strategy (NPSS), which will be a Real-Time Payment solution in the United Arab Emirates. Next, I familiarized myself with the documentation and assumptions of the MVP and post MVP phases. We conducted user research and identified their needs related to the current application functionality and the gaps it contained. Based on this, we prepared a series of improvements that we planned to implement. With the front-end and back-end development team, complete functionality was prepared and implemented within a 4-month period.
