Anthropic published best practices for Claude Code in large codebases this week.

It covers monorepos with millions of lines. Teams with thousands of developers. Legacy systems where the context window breaks before you reach the relevant file.

I read it as someone who uses Claude Code alone, building client work and my own projects.

The challenges are the same. Context is still the problem. Whether your team is 3,000 people or just you, the more code you have, the harder it is to give Claude Code enough of the right context to do something useful.

What I've learned after a year: Claude Code is not a replacement for knowing your codebase. It's a multiplier. Faster output on a misunderstood prompt still means wrong output.

The article recommends starting with well-scoped, isolated tasks. Same advice at any scale.

Treat it like a new senior developer who just joined. Brief them properly before asking them to change anything important.
