Figma just opened the canvas to AI agents
Figma just opened the canvas to AI agents. Today.
Via MCP, tools like Claude Code and Codex can now write directly to your Figma files. Create components, apply variables, modify layouts. Not by generating code that exports to Figma. Directly on the canvas, connected to your design system.
The part that actually matters: agents now have access to your components, tokens, and auto layout. That's the difference between AI generating something that looks like your product and AI generating something that is your product.
There's one thing they added called Skills. Markdown files that teach agents how to work inside your specific setup. Which components to use, what sequencing to follow, what good looks like for your team. You write it once, and every agent run follows those rules.
Open the Figma MCP docs, set up the server, and write a single skill for your most repeated task. Component generation is a good place to start.
