Last week I fixed a bug, rewrote an onboarding flow, and shipped a new feature to GitHub. No Figma. No handoff. No developer involved.

The tools that made this possible are available to every designer right now. So why is this not just the new normal for all of us?

Because the tools do not supply judgment. I did not learn how to read backend logic last week. I did not learn how to spot a trust problem disguised as a UX bug last week. That took fifteen years of being wrong in real products with real consequences. The tools removed the friction. The understanding was already there.

The floor dropped for everyone. The ceiling rose for people who already know how to think about products.

Here is what I am genuinely curious about: how many senior designers are building deep product understanding right now, versus getting faster at deliverables?
